In this talk, Chiara Ianeselli, curatorial coordinator at Documenta 15, discusses the decentralized curation that characterized this edition. Ianeselli recounts Documenta 15, where the artistic collective Ruangrupa, called to lead, disrupted the traditional curatorial system. Grounded in principles of sustainability and participation, the “lumbung” system, akin to a rice barn/common repository where the harvest is collectively stored and managed for the community’s benefit, was embraced as an organizational model to shift the focus from the individual to the collective.
